El Camino Real District Union
2022 Grant and Loan Application’s Available
Grants and Loans are available in the following categories:
- Local Church Renewal: helping existing congregations develop outreach
- Circuit and Cooperative Ministries: collaborative efforts involving two or more churches
- New Church Development: new places for new people
Local Church and Cooperative Ministry Grants:
Local Church and Cooperative Ministry Grants are normally ministry/program oriented (resources, materials or staffing for new or expanded ministries). These grants are evaluated based upon their proposed impact on the United Methodist mission of “making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Examples of successful grants would be those that support discipleship ministries such as outreach to the marginalized community, intentional faith development, hospitality - inviting and welcoming and any other discipleship focused grants.
Church Start Grants:
Although the El Camino Real District Union funds Church Start Grants, these grants are applied for and approved at the conference level. A Church Start grant may be used to fund salary, administrative cost, equipment, marketing and communication, outreach, insurance, property taxes, programming, and training. Church Start Grants are only considered on recommendation of the Conference Committee on New and Vital Congregations. For further eligibility requirements and additional information, please consult the Office of Congregational Development.
Loans:
Loans are normally approved for one-time expenditures for construction, repair, or equipment. Loan amounts are subject to available funds. Terms are negotiable. The District Union reserves the prerogative to engage applicants in dialogue offering a loan as an alternative to a grant, and vice versa.
Applications: ECRDU Board meetings are held quarterly – January, April, July, and October. Applications must be received by December 15th, March 15th, June 15th, or September 15th - prior to the upcoming board meeting.
